It is now the only key high school in Shanghai that is under the direct auspices of China’s Ministry of Education. Always in pursuit of excellence and innovation, Erfuzhong (EFZ), a shortened Chinese name of the school, is renowned for an outstanding educational result both at home and abroad. It highly values internationalized education and in 1999, approved by the Shanghai Municipal Government, it set up the International Division, an educational institute offering junior and senior high school diploma education and started to recruit foreign passport holders aged from 12 to 18. The school also serves as an HSK test center, a base of international promotion of the Chinese language under the direct auspices of the Office of Chinese Language Council International of the country, and a base of Chinese language teaching as an established subsidiary of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.
